What it means

Round-the-clock means the seller commits to a supply profile across the day, not just to whatever the sun and wind deliver — an obligation no variable generator can meet on its own. In practice bidders assemble solar, wind and battery storage until the combined output clears the availability requirement, which is why RTC tenders have become one of the largest sources of storage demand in the country.

The discovered ₹5.25/kWh is a blended energy price for that firmed bundle, not a battery capacity price, so it is not directly comparable to the ₹/MW/month numbers from standalone BESS auctions. It is still a useful benchmark: the gap between plain solar tariffs and firmed RTC tariffs is roughly what the market currently charges to make renewable power dispatchable. The bid structure sits inside the wider FDRE tender framework, which our India BESS policy overview places in context.

Update, 10 August 2026: SECI has announced the winners of the round, with Juniper Green Energy taking 230 MW of the gigawatt on offer. Naming winners moves the round past price discovery, but PPAs are the step that commits volume — those follow, and will be updated here as they are published.
