What is Fujiyama's 1 GWh battery manufacturing expansion at Ratlam?

Fujiyama plans an additional 1 GWh of lithium battery manufacturing capacity at its Ratlam plant in Madhya Pradesh, reported between 25 and 31 August 2026. It is an announced expansion rather than a commissioned line, adding domestic pack capacity that buyers can count against local-content rules in Indian storage tenders.

What it means

Read manufacturing headlines by their verb. This one is a plan, not an opening — capacity that has to be built and commissioned before it can be booked against orders, unlike lines already running such as Octillion’s third Indian plant. A gigawatt-hour a year is roughly the size of one large state storage award, so each addition of this scale moves the domestic supply position a little further from imports.

The commercial reason to track it is procurement rules: domestic content requirements in a growing share of Indian tenders make locally assembled packs a qualification rather than a preference, and the incentive structure behind expansions like this one is set out in our PLI advanced chemistry cell guide. Madhya Pradesh’s own framework sits in our state policy note.
