A half-gigawatt-hour standalone requirement — Bihar buying flexibility as an asset in its own right, not as an add-on to generation.
Mercom India ↗What it means
The headline gives energy but not rated power, so the discharge duration is not fixed by the reporting — and that single missing number is what decides the shape of the plant. The same 500 MWh delivered at 250 MW is a two-hour peaking asset; at 125 MW it is a four-hour long-duration one, with roughly half the power conversion equipment and a very different balance-of-plant cost. Bidders will find that ratio in the tender documents, and it is the first thing to read.
Standalone procurement of this kind is increasingly how states buy flexibility, because a battery contracted on its own can be dispatched wherever the network needs it rather than where a generator happens to sit — the logic set out in our guide to standalone storage tenders and reflected in our standalone BESS solutions. Terms and deadlines change by notification; verify the current bid documents on the issuing agency’s portal before acting.
