Close to two gigawatt-hours of two-hour storage going to a single developer in Maharashtra — a sign the state's storage push is now turning into awarded capacity.

What it means

Eighteen hundred megawatt-hours against 900 MW is a two-hour battery — enough to carry a utility through the evening peak, not enough to move bulk solar across the night. That is the job of the four-hour systems compared in our 2-hour vs 4-hour duration guide.

Maharashtra has become one of India’s busiest storage buyers, from its 4 GWh standalone call to the storage mandates it is now writing into connectivity and rooftop rules. The state framework is covered in our Maharashtra BESS policy note. An award is not yet a built project; the headlines do not report a tariff, site or commissioning date.
