SJVN, the central public-sector power company, has announced the winner of its 265 MW / 530 MWh battery energy storage auction, reported by Mercom India on 25 September 2026. With 530 MWh against 265 MW, it is a two-hour system, and the auction result moves the project from tender to award.

What it means

At a 2:1 energy-to-power ratio this is a peaking battery, the same shape as most state and PSU calls this year. Central PSUs such as SJVN and NTPC run these auctions and then contract the capacity onward, which is the model explained in our guide to SECI and PSU standalone storage tenders. The headline names neither the winning bidder’s tariff nor a site; we will update this brief when those are published.
