What is Juniper Green Energy's 50 MW FDRE PPA with SJVN?

Juniper Green Energy has signed a 50 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) power purchase agreement with SJVN, reported on 27 August 2026. FDRE contracts require storage to firm variable generation, so the deal implies a battery, though the headline does not state its energy rating. The offtake is contracted.

Fifty megawatts of firm, dispatchable renewable supply — the contract shape that pulls storage into projects that would once have been solar alone.

What it means

FDRE stands for firm and dispatchable renewable energy: the developer commits to supplying an agreed profile whatever the sun and wind are doing, which in practice means oversized generation plus a battery. The headline gives the contracted power but no megawatt-hours, so the storage block behind it is not yet public — the FDRE tender framework explains how those obligations are usually specified.

Fifty megawatts is modest next to the gigawatt-scale central rounds, and that is the point worth noting: firmed structures are no longer reserved for flagship auctions, they are becoming the default shape of ordinary renewable procurement under India’s storage-linked policy. Whether the battery ends up two-hour or four-hour changes the whole design, as we set out in 2-hour vs 4-hour BESS explained.
