What is Mecpower Solutions' 5 GWh BESS factory in Gujarat?

Mecpower Solutions plans a battery energy storage factory in Gujarat with 5 GWh of annual assembly capacity. Reported by pv magazine India on 29 July 2026, the plant would expand India's domestic BESS supply and support Make-in-India localisation just as grid-scale tender demand for storage accelerates nationwide.

What it means

Domestic assembly capacity is the supply-side counterpart to the tender boom: every gigawatt-hour tendered needs cells and packs, and a planned 5 GWh-per-year plant in Gujarat helps close that gap. It follows the same localisation wave as AmpereHour Energy’s 5 GWh BESS factory and Pace Digitek’s battery R&D push, all riding the incentives set out in our PLI for ACC battery manufacturing guide. Gujarat’s existing solar-and-storage manufacturing cluster makes it a natural home for the line — the state’s policy backdrop is covered in our Gujarat BESS policy explainer.

As of this briefing the plant is at the announcement stage — build and commissioning timelines will firm up as the project progresses.
