Phase 1 live
The first phase of a 1 GWh battery is now operating in Rajasthan — India's storage pipeline turning into commissioned assets, not just announcements.
ESS News ↗What it means
Most storage headlines in India are still tenders and signatures. A commissioning is different — it means equipment is installed, tested and dispatching, and it is the point at which a developer’s cost assumptions meet reality. Phasing a gigawatt-hour project is normal practice at this scale: earlier blocks start earning while later ones are still being built, which shortens the gap between capital going out and revenue coming in.
Bikaner sits in Rajasthan’s high-irradiance western belt, where the state’s storage and renewable policy has drawn a heavy concentration of solar capacity — and where surplus midday generation makes the case for batteries strongest. Serentica is also the counterparty on a separate 600 MW / 2,400 MWh assured-peak PPA with SECI, so this is a developer building storage on more than one contracting model.
The headline does not state the battery’s power rating or the size of the commissioned phase, so the discharge duration and the share of the project now live are not public.
