A 12 GWh-per-year plant aimed at Indian and export demand — one of the largest single BESS assembly announcements in the country.
Mercom India ↗What it means
Twelve gigawatt-hours a year is a large number in context: India’s entire installed base grew by roughly 8.2 GWh in the first half of 2026, so a single plant of this size is sized against national demand rather than a project pipeline. The joint-venture structure — an established solar manufacturer pairing with a battery specialist — is the pattern that has recurred through India’s storage localisation push, because BESS assembly needs both cell sourcing and power-electronics integration under one roof.
Announced capacity is not built capacity, and the gap between the two is where schedule risk lives for anyone writing a domestic-content clause into a bid. The same dynamic sits behind the PLI cell manufacturing programme and the domestic content requirements now appearing in Indian storage tenders. For comparison at a smaller scale, see Powertrac’s 10 GWh production line order.
