A small battery against a large solar plant — sized to smooth and shift the edges of generation, not to firm the whole output.
Mercom India ↗What it means
The ratio is the story. Twenty-two megawatt-hours against 100 MW of solar is a fraction of what firming the full plant would need — a four-hour battery matched to that generation would run to several hundred megawatt-hours. A battery this size does a narrower job: smoothing ramps, catching clipped output at the inverter, and shifting a slice of midday generation past the evening ramp. It is a design choice, not an undersized one, and it keeps the capital cost proportionate to a plant whose value is still mostly energy rather than capacity.
The battery’s rated power is not given in the reporting, so the discharge duration is not yet determinable — that will come with the EPC documents. Consultant appointment is also the stage at which specifications are still being drafted, which is exactly when supplier input carries weight. For how these hybrid structures are written elsewhere, see our notes on solar-plus-storage and the India BESS policy overview.
