A captive campus solar-plus-storage system — the battery firms rooftop generation and provides backup against grid interruptions at the institute.
Mercom India ↗What it means
This is a captive solar-plus-storage system, not a grid-scale standalone BESS: 2.2 MW of solar with 8 MWh of batteries to firm campus generation and hold power through outages. It sits at the expression-of-interest stage — the pre-tender step where a buyer gauges vendor appetite before issuing formal bid documents — so scope and terms can still shift before a tender is floated. At this scale it is a behind-the-meter, self-consumption asset rather than a merchant grid resource, closer in spirit to a large commercial-and-industrial demand-charge application than to the utility calls in the pipeline.
Institutional campuses are a growing pull for co-located storage because they combine steady daytime solar with a need for outage resilience — the same logic behind our solar-plus-storage islanding solutions. For how storage is sized against a site’s own load, see our guide on how to size a BESS for your site.
