India's 45–50 GWh battery pipeline back in focus; NTPC, MSEDCL and Telangana tenders stay live — 30 September 2026

A second outlet, ESS News, echoed Crisil's forecast that India may commission 45–50 GWh of battery storage across fiscals 2027 and 2028, leading a quiet 29–30 September 2026. No new battery tender carried specs; NTPC's 400 MWh Maharashtra call and the MSEDCL and Telangana battery tenders remain live.

A quiet day. The feed for 29–30 September brought no new battery tender or award with a MW and MWh figure, so there are no new datasheet briefs today. The main story is a second outlet carrying Crisil’s multi-year BESS forecast. Three battery tenders from last week are still open. You can follow them on our tender tracker.

Storage-relevant headlines we are tracking for 29–30 September 2026, grouped by type. Tenders still open outnumber the new stories.

Battery tenders still open

We covered these three calls when they were issued. They remain the live battery procurements in the feed. NTPC’s Maharashtra tender has its own datasheet. The MSEDCL and Telangana headlines give no capacity figures, so they appear here as links only. For Telangana, our state storage policy page gives background.

Market outlook and C&I

ESS News reported that India may commission 45–50 GWh of BESS across fiscals 2027 and 2028. This is the same Crisil figure we covered yesterday, now reported by a second outlet. Separately, cement maker Nuvoco will source renewable power from a 46.4 MW CleanMax project. The headline does not mention storage, but corporate clean-power deals like this are where demand-charge management with C&I batteries tends to follow. A Mercom interview also looks at the shift towards data-led O&M for renewable assets.

Products abroad

Solaryaan has launched an all-in-one battery inverter product in Vietnam. It is outside India, but we include it because it is a battery product launch.

Tender terms and deadlines can change when a new notification is issued. Before acting, check the current bid documents on the issuing organisation’s portal.
